So, it's onwards into 2008 wondering what it may hold in store. Already, tumbling stock markets, an ongoing credit crunch, falling house prices and the rising price of oil seem to add to the stygian gloom of January, with only Valentine's Day as a possible fillip on the immediate horizon! But all is not doom and gloom, read on! - Giles

Every cloud has a silver lining!

Internet beats Tesco as favourite place to shop

  • British consumers spent £46.6 billion online last year compared with about £40 billion at Tesco, Britain's biggest supermarket chain.

Recently a young pup had the cheek to yap on and on that it is a waste of time even bothering to learn the new tricks of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
Well, give a dog a bone! I had great pleasure in calling the little mutt to heel and laying down some very good reasons why anyone online, young dog or old should bother with SEO.
Here are just a few:
  • Natural search results are viewed 98% more often than pay per click ads.
  • 41.1% of people click on the first result.
  • 11.2% of people click on the second result.
  • 72% of people only look on the first page.
  • Fewer than 8% of people go past the second page.

'Just imagine,' I said, 'how much business you would be losing to the competition if you weren't on the first page of Google, or even worse, not in the rankings at all.' That put his tail between his legs, but it was soon wagging again when I explained that choosing the right keywords and phrases would soon have his website optimised and moving up the rankings.

Just shows how even a old dog can learn new tricks. Just one other thing before I take Giles off for a walk - if you want your website to be in the real pedigree class when it comes to SEO, just give my friends at Studio 2 a ring to learn about the SEO packages they provide, including their special 'First Page of Google or your money back'* offer! Now where did I put Giles' lead?  (*Terms and conditions apply, go to

We have never looked back. Sales on the websites have gone from strength to strength, showing increases in every subsequent month."

James Greenlees, Group Managing Director - Grahame Gardner & Gymphlex Ltd

And finally ........

With the surprise return of Kevin Keegan to lead the Toon Army, I thought you might benefit from at least one of his famous pearls of wisdom.

"I know what is around the corner - I just don't know where the corner is. But the onus is on us to perform and we must control the bandwagon." - Priceless!

Oh, go on then, just one more:

"He's using his strength and that is his strength, his strength." - Magic!
